In the 1980s, it became evident that a village hall was necessary within the Colwich and Little Haywood village complex to address the social needs of the existing community and accommodate the anticipated increase in residents.
A dedicated committee was formed, initiating fundraising efforts. Following years of diligent work and with financial assistance from the Parish Council, construction began on a new facility on land acquired from the Abbey. Completed in 1989, the Hall was officially inaugurated by Lord Lichfield in 1991. Situated at the end of Chilwell Avenue on the St. Mary's estate in Little Haywood, the building underwent extensive finishing touches by a group of skilled volunteers. This voluntary effort persisted over the years, enhancing the interior facilities and improving the grounds and parking area.
Operated as a registered charity, the Hall is managed by an elected committee whose members serve as trustees. It operates on a self-funded basis, generating income from rental fees and fundraising initiatives. Maintenance expenses are minimized through the efforts of the committee's "work party." Aside from events organized by the Hall committee, all activities are arranged and overseen by the clubs and groups that utilize the facilities.
Maintained to a high standard, the Hall is available for one-off events like parties, quizzes, and weddings, as well as for regular club activities. Rental options range from hourly bookings to weekend reservations, with charges typically reflecting the duration and facilities utilized.
The calendar page displays all scheduled activities at the Hall, with ample availability for new regular and ad-hoc bookings.
